The Division of Fire Prevention and Control conducts or oversees the necessary plan reviews, issues building permits and causes necessary inspections to be performed for buildings and structures of both Certified and Non-Certified Health Facilities licensed by the State of Colorado.
Where the Division is the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) it shall enforce and inspect to the adopted codes and standards for buildings and structures of health facilities licensed by the State of Colorado. Where the local building or fire department is the AHJ, that department will continue to enforce its adopted codes and standards and the Division will certify persons to conduct plan reviews and inspections on their behalf. - Health Facility

A general hospital, hospital unit as defined in section 25-3-101 (2), C.R.S., psychiatric hospital, community clinic, rehabilitation center, convalescent center, community mental health center, acute treatment unit, facility for persons with developmental disabilities, habilitation center for children with brain damage, chiropractic center and hospital, maternity hospital, nursing care facility, rehabilitative nursing facility, hospice care facility, dialysis treatment clinic, ambulatory surgical center, birthing center, home care agency, assisted living residence, or other facility of a like nature.
- Certified Health Facility

Facilities which are both Medicare and Medicaid Certified directly with the Centers for Medicare &, Medicaid Services (CMS) as well as facilities which are Medicaid Certified only through the Colorado Department of Healthcare Policy and Financing (HCPF).
- Non-Certified Facility

A facility that is typically considered to be private pay facilities which do not directly receive government reimbursement.
