Active Firework Display Operator/Pyrotechnic Operator Certifications (updated 1/26/2024)

Scheduling a Fireworks Exam: As of May 1, 2018, Fireworks Display Operator and Fireworks Pyrotechnic Operator Exams will not be administered unless the appropriate application above has been submitted and received by DFPC.

Written Testing is administered by DFPC’s Professional Qualifications and Training Section. The cost to take a Fireworks Exam each time is $30.00. This fee must be paid prior to taking the exam. Please go to Testing Payment and select "Fireworks Certification Exam" as the Service Type.
To schedule an exam, please review the DFPC Written Testing Schedule and Map to find a date, time and location for an exam. It is recommended that you select a first, second and third choice for your exam. We try very hard to accommodate your first choice, but sometimes that is not possible. You may only take one exam per testing session.

Once you have your selections, please submit the following online form, Fireworks Certification Exam Request.
You should receive email confirmation within 5 business days. There will be two emails, one with the subject, “Examination Date Notification” containing the date, time and location that you were registered for and one with the subject, “DFPC Examination Enrollment Confirmation” that will contain your Username and Password needed for the Exam.

Payment Information: The price to make a Credit Card payment to DFPC will be $0.75 plus 2.25% of the transaction amount. The flat fee for an ACH or electronic check payment is $1.00.

Since the transaction must be processed through the state’s official web portal, Colorado.gov, the payment is subject to portal pricing and under a contract administered under the authority of Colorado’s Statewide Internet Portal Authority as designated in statute CRS 24.37.7-101.
