Application Timelines
Applications for renewal shall be submitted no more than 30 days prior to registration expiration. A grace period for renewal may be extended for up to 30 days after expiration, after which a late application fee will be assessed.
Applicants submitting more than 60 days after registration expiration shall submit all documentation required of a new applicant in addition to documentation of continuing education.
All Fire Inspector Registrations expire three years from the date of issue.
Fees
- New or renewal registrations without reciprocity are $75.00 for each inspector type.
- New or renewal registrations with reciprocity is $25.00 for each inspector type.
- Late renewal is $25.00 (per 8 CCR 1507-101 6.1).
Registrations
All submitted documents are required to be in PDF format. Please have them ready prior to applying.
Requirements
A letter from the agency's chief executive or code official responsible for inspection and plan review attesting for every jurisdiction for which they are providing inspection or plan review services according to 8 CCR 1507-101 4.2.2.3(1-4). You may use our prepared Agency Letter form for this purpose.
You must submit one of the following:
- Certification from another State at the same level
- Current license as a Plans Examiner specializing in fire protection
- 5 years of education/work experience in fire protection and/or code enforcement
Renewals Without Reciprocity
Registration renewals without reciprocity have the additional following requirements:
- Proof of 1.5 (15 hours) CEUs
Note that 1.0 CEU is rewarded for a current ICC/NFPA Certification and 0.3 CEUs are rewarded for continuous work within an agency (requires agency letter).
The applicant is responsible to show proof of all additional required CEUs needed.
When attaining CEUs make sure they are from one of the following Qualified Organizations:
- Regionally accredited post-secondary institutions
- National Fire Protection Association (NFPA)
- International Code Council (ICC)
- National Fire Academy
- American Fire Sprinkler Association (AFSA)
- National Fire Sprinkler Association (NFSA)
- Sprinkler Fitters Local 669
- State chapter of organizations or institutions listed above
- Tyco-fire
- Local fire classes
Local fire classes need prior approval from DFPC. A syllabus must be provided to cdps_dfpc_suppression@state.co.us
With Reciprocity
A Current ICC/NFPA Certification for the specified level is required.
