The Division of Fire Prevention and Control (DFPC) now has a Wildfire Resiliency Code Board (WRCB)! Senate Bill 23-166 established the code board to enhance community safety and resiliency from wildfires by implementing codes and standards.

Colorado Wildfire Resiliency Code

The 2025 Colorado Wildfire Resiliency Code (CWRC), established on 1 July, 2025 through 8 CCR 1507-39, is one of the newly adopted codes. 

The WRCB has also directed the creation of a Fire Intensity Classification layer for the 2025 Colorado Wildfire Resiliency Code Map.

CWRC Compliance Timeline

The expected timeline for compliance with the CWRC started when the code was adopted on 1 July, 2025. By 1 April, 2026 the code will be adopted by the relevant jurisdiction. By 1 July, 2026 the relevant jurisdiction will be compliant.

The period to comply with an adopted code shall be in accordance with the rules and regulations of the governing body or within three months of the date the code is adopted by the governing body, whichever is sooner.

Rule-Making Compliance

In accordance with 24-4-103(4.5)(a)-(c) C.R.S., the Regulatory Analysis of the Draft Rules 8 CCR 1507-39 concerning the adoption of the 2025 Colorado Wildfire Resiliency Code is hereby published for the public view. 

Code Adoption, Implementation, & Enforcement Support

Pursuant to 24-33.5-1237(2)(d) C.R.S., adopting governing bodies may request support for inspections and enforcement from DFPC.

Peer Exchange Supporting CWRC Implementation

DFPC and Colorado Resiliency Office (CRO) are facilitating a monthly CWRC Implementation Peer Exchange. Governing bodies that are adopting or supporting the adoption of the recently released 2025 CWRC are invited to learn from each other and participate in this peer-to-peer conversation.

The Board will be meeting for a tour of the Waldo Canyon and Black Forest fire areas with the Colorado Springs Fire Department on Thursday, 9 October. The presentation will be recorded and a set of notes will be available following the Friday meeting.

Advisory Committee Meetings

The Advisory Committees for Implementation & Governance, Building and Site Design, and WUI have been disbanded. Two new committees will be standing up in the coming months. Once the dates for the new committees are established, this site will be updated.
