Training Updates: Excited for the training year 2022? So are we!

Greetings from the training team of DFPC,

We have big news this year as our program has doubled its need for 2022!

This brings some challenges the training team is actively working to solve. This year we experienced 83 requests for our training props. In an effort to meet the need with our current staff and props we have created a trainign scenario that will allow for more firefighters to train on all of our resources. The event, named Operation Props, is a large training event where all 3 DFPC mobile training props station in one place, for multiple days, to train firefighters. Additional detail below:

  • Operation props will have the all-star roster of every RTO and the Mobile Live Fire, Mobile Driver Simulator and Mobile Pump Operations Unit.
  • These trainings will be 4-hour blocks with a minimum 5 offerings of each. During Operation prop one can receive training from each prop.
  • MLFTU; live fire training with multi agency coordination, firefighter skills including but not limited to hose management, ladders, forcible entry, SCBA confidence and use, fire attack, ventilation, and search.
  • MDSU; apparatus placement, driving skills including but not limited to size up, placement, traffic awareness, driving emergent, situational awareness, and driving habits.
  • MPOU Pump until your heart's content! Pumping skills included but not limited to drafting, pumping multiple hose lines, getting a prime without a primer, and hydraulics

The offering locations and dates for 2022 are the following:

  • La Veta April 8 –10
  • Brush June 3-5
  • Craig July 22-24
  • Dolores August 2-5

Outside of Operation Props, training is open as always. We are hoping to add more training as we find props and personnel available to do so. Click here to view our training calendar of all the prop locations and training is posted here!

We intend to teach approximately 3600 firefighters across the state through the 2022 calendar year. Each training brings a new opportunity to meet new people and grow our outreach.

If you haven’t heard yet we have a new Western Slope RTO Tom Henderson. He is covering the small area of the continental divide West. Feel free to get in contact with him for your training needs. We have lots of growth on the horizon for our team and more.

This should be an exciting trip through 2022 stay tuned for more updates!
