PQT Summer Newsletter 2022: Mobile Unit Training
In 2021, Regional Training Officers (RTO) traveled over 30,000 miles collectively training firefighters with our mobile training props. We began to notice that with the large amounts of travel, we were able to dedicate more time to training (rather than traveling) when we were all located in one place- training firefighters from the regional departments.
This quarter, DFPCs PQT-training team began combining all of our mobile training props into one large training event. These training events encompass all 3 mobile units in 1 location over the course of one weekend. The idea is to set up in a location that has numerous requests surrounding that area. The priority is to eliminate the time allotted to movement of props thus increasing training time for firefighters.
The RTOs have conducted 2 training events in the past 3 months:
- Our first training event was in La Veta, CO
- The second in Brush, CO
The RTO’s are very thankful to the host agencies and the work put in to make those events a success. Each event encompassed the mobile live fire, mobile driving simulator, and mobile pump operations.
The events allow students to show up and take multiple trainings in the same day. Each class is sanctioned into 4-hour blocks. The time frame and availability can allow one student to get through all three props in one and a half days. This task used to take months for students and potentially travel. Now come take advantage of the entire training team and our props in one location.
So far just over 100 students have participated in the operation props training. Each student had the ability to hone and learn new skills as it relates to fire attack, drafting, driving and more.
We are going to use all of the feedback collected from these events to evaluate future offerings of this large style training!
Upcoming training:
Operation Props in Craig, CO: July 22 – 24 2022
Operation Props in Dolores, CO (Part of the Tri State Fire Conference): August 4-6 2022
