Fire Prevention Week Kick-Off Event
Live Firefighting Demonstrations, Kids Educational activities and Booths, Food and Ice cream & more!
Durango, CO – The Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control (DFPC) is teaming up with the Durango Fire Protection District (DFPD) to promote this year’s Fire Prevention WeekTM campaign, “Fire won't wait, plan your escape” with a live fire burn demonstrations and fire muster!
“It’s important for everyone to plan and practice a home fire escape. Everyone needs to be prepared in advance, so that they know what to do when the smoke alarm sounds. Given that every home is different, every home fire escape plan will also be different,” said Chris Brunette, DFPC Fire & Life Safety Section Chief. “Have a plan for everyone in the home. Children, older adults, and people with disabilities may need assistance to wake up and get out. Make sure that someone will help them!”
“Having a home fire escape plan and practicing it is important for all members of a family,” said Durango Fire Protection District Fire Chief Hal Doughty, “and we also need to extend the planning and practicing to evacuating from a wildfire. Come join us October 8th from 9am to 2pm at our new training tower. There will be a multitude of activities for adults and children to practice home fire escapes, see demonstrations of fire events and technical rescue, and check out the helicopter”.
DFPC and DFPD will be hosting a live building fire demonstration with a Side-By-Side NFSA Trailer demonstration. Bring the family and learn about fire safety, meet the men and women on the front lines of fire, and watch live burn demonstrations!
