Petitions for Code Variations and Mapping

Petitions for Code Variations or Alternatives

Governing bodies may choose to amend/modify the CWRC or to use an alternative code. Such amendments or alternative code adoptions must be reviewed and approved by the Wildfire Resiliency Code Board when any component may be considered to significantly alter or in any way reduce the standards set forth by the 2025 CWRC, including the use of an alternative code.

Governing bodies seeking to petition for modification or use an alternative code may do so by filing the application through the form below.

Locally-Developed Maps

Governing bodies may develop a local map for code application to use as a supplement to or as an alternative to the State Map for Code Application. The Wildfire Resiliency Code Board must review, and verify or approve such maps. When any area of the jurisdiction identifies a lower fire intensity classification that that identified on the state map, the jurisdiction must submit the form below. The map will be sent to external, independent subject matter experts for evaluation. The Petitions and Compliance Committee will then review the evaluations and issue a decision.
