Application Timelines
All applicants shall have no longer than 30 days from the original submittal to correct deficiencies in their application. This includes missing materials or fees. Applications older than 30 days with deficiencies will be considered vacated applications and the fees surrendered.
Applications for renewal shall be submitted no more than 30 days prior to expiration. A grace period for renewal may be extended for up to 30 days after expiration, after which a late application fee will be assessed.
Applicants submitting more than 60 days after expiration shall submit all documentation required of a new applicant in addition to documentation of continuing education.
All Fire Inspector Registrations expire three years from the date of issue.
Fees
- New or renewal registrations are $75.00 for each inspector type.
- New or renewal registrations with reciprocity (you hold an ICC or NFPA Certification at the same level you are seeking) is $25.00 for each inspector type.
- Late renewal is $25.00 (per 8 CCR 1507-101 6.1).
New Registrations
All submitted documents are required to be in PDF format. Please have them ready prior to applying.
The application must be accompanied by a letter from the agency's chief executive or code official responsible for inspection and plan review attesting for every jurisdiction for which they are providing inspection or plan review services according to 8 CCR 1507-101 4.2.2.3(1-4). You may also use our prepared Agency Letter form.
Without Reciprocity
You must submit one of the following:
- Certification from another State at the same level
- Current License as a PE specializing in fire protection
- 5 years of education/work experience in fire protections and/or code enforcement
With Reciprocity
Current ICC/NFPA Certification for specified level

Requirements Without Reciprocity
You must submit one of the following:
- Certification from another State at the same level
- Current License as a PE specializing in fire protection
- 5 years of education/work experience in fire protections and/or code enforcement.
- Proof of 1.5 (15 hours) of CEUs required.
- 1.0 CEUs are rewarded for a current ICC/NFPA Certification
- 0.3 CEUs are rewarded for continuous work within an agency (agency letter).
The applicant is responsible to show proof of all additional required CEUs needed. When attaining CEUs make sure they are from a Qualified Organization.
Requirements With Reciprocity:
- Agency Letter
- Current ICC/NFPA Certification for specified level
Payments
You will have the option to pay for your permit, registration or certification online (check or credit card) or to mail in a check.
Please note that the price to make a credit card payment to DFPC will be $0.75 plus 2.25% of the transaction amount. The flat fee for an ACH (electronic check) is $1.00. Since the transaction must be processed through the State’s official web portal, colorado.gov, the payment is subject to portal pricing and under a contract administered under the authority of Colorado’s Statewide Internet Portal Authority as designated in statue CRS 24.37.7-101.
